First UMC Thrift Store in Bangor is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.; Wednesdays, 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., Fridays, 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.; and Saturdays, 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Donations can be accepted at these times, and you can also find some great items for Christmas.
Monday evening Bible Study will continue through Advent as we move through the development of the Christian movement under Paul’s guidance as found in the book of the Acts of the Apostles. In Addition: We will be holding a Wednesday, 10:00 a.m. Advent study beginning December 3 on “The Families of the First Christmas.”
Tuesday, December 2 has been lifted up in recent years as “Giving Tuesday,” (a follow-up to “Black Friday,” and “Cyber Monday.” Please consider making a donation to a United Methodist mission through the Advance Special program of the General Board of Global Ministries. The annual Christmas Bazaar will be held on Friday November 21st from 5:00pm-8:00pm and Saturday November 22nd 10:00am-2:00pm. Please share the attached flyer.
CHRISTMAS PARTY: The UMW Christmas Party will be held December 2nd @ 6:00 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. The cost per person is still yet to be determined. Once we get the cost, checks should be made out to the East Bangor UMW. ALL WOMEN of our church are invited and may bring a friend for a fun-filled evening. Don’t forget to bring a wrapped $5.00 gift for our exchange and a collection will be taken for the Salvation Army. RSVP by November 23rd.
We will be collecting non-perishable items, canned goods such as soup, jello, cereal, cake mixes, pasta, noodles, etc. (please check expiration dates). Collection will end November 23rd.
United Methodist Women are again sponsoring the collection of “Operation Christmas Child” – shoe boxes filled with different items for children. Last year, we collected 44 boxes from our church. This year we are hoping for more. The boxes will be sent to various places in our world. Just know that children will be overjoyed to receive them. Boxes should be brought to the church by November 16th, 2014.
Here is a list of Gift Suggestions: Girls or Boys 2-4 yrs, 5-9 yrs, 10-14 yrs SCHOOL SUPPLIES: pens, pencils and sharpeners, crayons or markers, stamps & ink pad sets, writing pads or paper, solar calculators, coloring and picture books, etc. TOYS: small cars, balls, dolls, stuffed animals, yo-yos, kazoos, harmonicas, jump ropes, small Etch A Sketch, toys that light up or make noise (with extra batteries), slinky, etc. OTHER: t-shirts, socks, ball caps, sunglasses, hair clips, toy jewelry, watches, flashlight (with extra batteries) A PERSONAL NOTE: You may enclose a note to the child and a photo of yourself or your family. (If you include your name and address, the child may write back) *DO NOT INCLUDE: Used or damaged items; war-related items such as toy guns, knives or military figures; chocolate or food; out-of-date candy; liquids or lotions; medications or vitamins; breakable items such as snowglobes or glass containers; aerosol cans. “Coping with Suffering and Sadness at the Holidays.” This is a two-part program that will held November 9 and November 30 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m., and will be facilitated by Wendy Littner Thomson, M.Ed., LPC, RYT. If you are dealing with the loss of a loved one, job loss, loneliness, or seasonal depression, this program may help give you the strength and hope needed for coping with the upcoming holiday season.
